The Search for the Perfect Vacuum

My love affair with Dyson vacuums continues, despite the fact that I don’t own one. I’ve made it no secret that I’m desperately seeking a vacuum that sucks up everything in sight and doesn’t spit out the things it doesn’t like.

A number of readers have been kind enough to recommend their favorite brands of non-Dyson vacuums and some have even got me re-thinking my unwavering loyalty to a brand I don’t even own.

One reader suggested that I invest in a Rainbow vacuum because it uses a water filtration system and therefore the dirt that is extracted from my carpet has no way of being expelled with the air that runs through the vacuum given that it is trapped in water. The vacuum’s reservoir is said to be light and easy to clean. In addition, the machine is designed for allergy sufferers (of which I am) and comes with features that remove:

*Fungal spores

*Ragweed pollen

*Pet dander

*Bacteria staphylococcus

*Mold spores

*Dust mite residue

Frankly, I had never heard of Rainbow brand vacuums until the reader’s note. Apparently, the company has been around since the 1920s and rates high in customer satisfaction.

Riccar is another name that has been thrown around. It is not as well-known as Dyson or Hoover, but the company has been in business for nearly 60 years and scores extremely well with customers. It is one of the only vacuum cleaners still produced in the United States, though it is not carried in department or discount stores. Rather, you need to shop at specialty vacuum shops or online, if you want to get your hands on a Riccar.

The benefits of owning a Riccar vacuum include:

*Durability

*HEPA filtration

*Designed to capture 99.97% of particles as small as to 0.3 microns in size

It sounds great, but I am not the type of person that makes a major purchase without trying out the product first. Still, thanks to the help from loyal readers, I am now keeping an open mind during my hunt for the perfect vacuum.
