The Sneaky Mama’s Kebabs

Kebabs, generally consist of meat placed on a skewer and are grilled or roasted. The Sneaky Mama loves Kebabs when it comes to summer foods because: a) they’re already bite sized b) eating food off a stick is a novelty c) they’re easily customizable. You can use the same type of meat and make different dipping sauces or you can easily have a ‘kebab’ bar and let each child fill their own stick with meat and vegetables. This of course translates into happy eaters who are eating exactly what they want (while at the same time eating exactly what you want! Try these kid-friendly kebab ideas for a sure to please dinner for the whole family.

Plain Yogurt dipping sauce

Plain yogurt is a great dipping sauce. If you add diced fruit to it with a little cinnamon it will make an even more appealing way to get vegetables and fruits into your little one!
You can also season plain yogurt with taco seasoning & cilantro, or even orange juice concentrate!

Creamy Lime Sauce

For a sweeter sauce (I think this tastes like key lime pie with a little kick), try vanilla yogurt, 2 tablespoons of fresh lime juice and a little diced cilantro. Yummy!

Homemade Honey Mustard

This isn’t rocket science. . .just mix honey and plain yellow mustard together. What’s good about making it at home though is that you can add more honey, making it a little sweeter and thus more palatable.

Sweet and Sour Sauce

Combine 1/2 cup ketchup, 1/2 cup white vinegar, and 1/2 cup sugar.

Ode to Salad Dressing

I don’t know why my kids will eat anything drenched in bleu cheese or ranch dressing but they will.

Kibab Friendly Vegetables

Grilled onions, mushrooms and green peppers are delicious when grilled–but I don’t know a lot of kids who like them. Try instead cherry tomatoes, pineapple, sweet potatoes w/ pork seasoning, potatoes or other kid friendlier fare. We even once took corn on the cob, cutting it into several slices and used those on our kebabs.
