The Start of Summer Scrapping

My daughter only has about a week or so left of school before summer vacation starts.

Where did the year go?

If you are an avid scrapper, then you probably view seasonal changes in terms of memory book themes. November and December are holiday-themed books; February features Valentine’s Day and winter activities; May means Mother’s Day and graduation scrapping; and June, July and August translates to prime summer-themed layouts.

Given that June is just a few weeks away, now is the time to gear up for summer scrapping. Many families spend at least part of the summer hitting the road on a seasonal escape. For example, my brother and his family are planning a vacation to Mexico in June. My sister-in-law, who is a scrapping fanatic, is already sketching layouts, and she hasn’t even packed a singe bag yet.

If you are planning to scrap your summer vacation consider the following tips:

Bag it: Pack some extra plastic storage bags to help store memorabilia from your vacation destination. Items such as ticket stubs, postcards, matchbooks, menus, and brochures make great additions to scrapbook designs.

Camera: It would be extremely challenging to create a memorable layout without photos from your trip. If you are planning a beach vacation, you might consider bringing along a waterproof camera. You can purchase a disposable one for about $10, and then use it to document your family scuba diving, snorkeling, swimming or fishing.

Color: Before you hit the road on your summer holiday, stock up on scrapbook essentials. Take advantage of Memorial Day sales to purchase colorful scrapbook paper that you can use later to make vibrant seasonal pages. If you are crafting a beach-themed layout, buy brilliant blue paper or turquoise green varieties. Don’t forget to purchase tan paper to mimic the sand. Finally, pick up some pink and coral colored paper to accent the blues and tans.
