They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but if you are a scrapbooker, then you know that having a layout filled exclusively with photos can make for boring crafting and viewing.
Words, whether they are in the form of journaling, titles, famous quotes or sayings, add another dimension to a page design. What’s more, the ideas shared on paper only enhance the images you are featuring on your layout.
I use famous quotes, song lyrics or parts of poems to reinforce the themes of my layouts. For example, last May, I designed a Mother’s Day scrapbook and dedicated two pages solely to my mom’s favorite hobby—-gardening. My mother loves fresh flowers and nothing pleases her more than when she is able to display the blossoms she helped grow in a vase for all of her houseguests to enjoy.
In addition to photos of my mom tending to her colorful plants, I also added the following quotes on the pages:
“If you’ve never been thrilled to the very edges of your soul by a flower in spring bloom, maybe your soul has never been in bloom.”–Audra Foveo
“Happiness held is the seed; happiness shared is the flower”–Unknown
“Love is the only flower that grows and blossoms without the aid of the seasons.”–Kahlil Gibran
“Flowers seem intended for the solace of ordinary humanity.”–John Ruskin
My particular layout didn’t require placing the sayings in quote bubbles, though you can purchase inexpensive sticker versions at various craft stores and scrapbook supply shops. Rather, I weaved the words around the photos and embellishments to mimic ivy or a wandering root. You may find that your favorite sayings or quotes look better as a frame around a specific photo or you might consider selecting a few phrases and creating a page border with them.
