They Said It Wouldn’t Last… They Were Right

So much for “’Til death do us part.” Well, chock one up for the critics… they were right, this time. Reps for Carmen Electra and Dave Navarro announced that the couple has indeed split. Or in their words: “amicably separated.”

Electra, a former “Baywatch” star and Navarro former Red Hot Chili Peppers guitarist and current host of the TV show “Rock Star: Supernova” were married in November 2003. Ironically, their lavish nuptials were documented on the 2004 MTV reality show “‘Til Death Do Us Part: Carmen and Dave.” (Hmmm, didn’t recently divorced Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson also appear on a MTV reality show based on their marriage? Do you sense a trend here?)

I remember seeing video of Navarro and Electra’s wedding. It took place at L.A.’s St. Regis Hotel, in front of 200 guests – including Hugh Hefner and Sharon Osbourne. PEOPLE magazine reported that guests were “escorted into a Garden of Eden-like setting, complete with projected water walls, flowered metal vines and a white python.” One of the most memorable moments of the ceremony (and one that was often quoted in magazines and newspapers following the event) was when Electra gazed at her husband to be, and joked during her vows, “I thought I would never marry a guy who looks in the mirror more than I do.”

Like many Hollywood marriages this one dodged its share of rumors that it “wasn’t exactly made in heaven.” In fact, the media’s persistent attacks on the state of the couple’s union forced Electra to issue a statement to PEOPLE magazine in April that read: “We’re fine! I’m not saying we have the perfect marriage or that we’re the perfect couple, but we’re pretty damn good.” If there were trouble, she added, “I wouldn’t have my ring on. I would not walk around and pretend.”

Still rumors of trouble continued to circulate. Until finally, word comes that the couple are no longer together. This was the second marriage for Electra (real name: Tara Leigh Patrick). As you will recall she famously (or infamously) married NBA star Dennis Rodman in Las Vegas in November 1998. That marriage lasted about five minutes (actually, it was five months). As for Navarro, his marriage to Electra was his third. The couple’s rep would not elaborate on why Electra and Navarro decided to separate
