I have always loved the song, Come, Come Ye Saints. It always makes me think of the pioneers and their brave fight, and faith to travel so far for what they believed in. But, in the Ensign this month, there was an article that really stuck out to me that has made me think. It is titled, “Though Hard to You…”
It is about a mother who was not aware that she was pregnant with a child with Down Syndrome until she actually had the baby. Being pregnant myself, I can’t help but worry about the health of my own baby. It’s a natural part of being pregnant, at least for me. I worried about my other kids too. Not just about down syndrome, but about a myriad of things that could be “wrong” with the baby. I was struck by this article and by the faith of this mother. In her darkest moment, the words to the song, Come, Come Ye Saints reminded her that Heavenly Father had complete trust in her in raising this precious spirit.
The line, “Though hard to you, Grace shall be as your day.” can be applicable in all aspects of our lives. Heavenly Father looks down on us with love and concern for the trials we are going through. He knows us best, and I like to think that He hand picks what our trials will be. And, the ones that He doesn’t choose for us (like someone doing evil to us through their own personal choices) He still gives us the strength to make it through those as well.
To us, often the trial does seem too hard. But, thankfully, we have the strength of our Savior, Jesus Christ to lift us up and carry us when we cannot do it alone. I am so grateful for that knowledge in my life. Life would seem so much harder without that knowledge.
