Face it, a small scrapbook space is really hard to work around. I’ve known scrapbookers who have had to use an area in the basement, a tiny portion of the living room or dining room, and even scrapbook in closets. So what is the best advice out there for maximizing these small spaces? Let’s find out.
Vertical, Vertical, Vertical
I cannot stress this enough. Vertical storage is honestly the key to maximum efficiency in a small confined scrapbooking space. Utilize the space from the floor all the way up to the ceiling and everything in between. Hang peg boards for hanging supplies, or use wire grid. Use the space under your desk or table. Rolling carts are absolutely perfect for this, because they allow you to wheel them out easily, if needed.
Stand Big and Tall
Consider using larger and taller bookcases to organize your supplies into smaller plastic bins or baskets. Additionally, do not forget to use the storage space up on top of the bookcase. You can hang storage units from chains anchored into the wall or ceiling above your scrap area. Stack storage items if you have the ability and space to do that too.
Compartmentalize
This works for any scrap space, but is essentially a good piece of advice when working with a rather small space. Utilize plastic tool bins and tilt bins to store your supplies. Anything that has drawers and compartments is a good buy. This is so you can sort and organize things and find them easier. Be sure to pick up a label maker so you can label each drawer to make finding what you want much easier.
The basic key to scrapbooking and organizing a small space is truly innovation. You will have to find solutions and be creative. This will allow you more flexibility in your scrap area and your scrapbooking time. Aside from moving, this is your creative spot, and it will have to do.
