Tips for Single Dating

After going through my divorce, I thought I would never date again. Interestingly, I chose not to date for more than six years so I could focus on raising my children. Most of my longtime friends thought I was crazy but in retrospect, this break was the best thing I could have done – for me and for my kids. I started dating one and a half years ago. From then to now, I have met some great people but not “the one”.

Two months ago, I was out dancing with my friends who play in a classic rock band. I had all but decided that I would likely be single for the rest of my life and amazingly, I was okay with that. I had learned to like myself over the past 8 years and being single is not so bad. I have wonderful children and great friends so I was not missing too much in my life.

Sitting at a table behind me was a nice looking gentleman, also a friend of the drummer. He came to sit with my girlfriends and I and we have been inseparable since. If someone had told me I would meet the most wonderful man two months ago, I would have laughed. This man treats me like a queen and come to find out; he knows many of the same people I know, allowing me to do some investigation. Everyone agrees that he is genuine and he likes me!

I am sharing this to let other single mothers know that there is life after divorce. It might that you meet that someone special in weeks or months but then again, it could be years. Rather than feel sorry for yourself for not dating, take the down time to grow with your children, learn a new craft, take classes, start a business, or other dreams that may have been put on the sidelines.

I am happy today with Bill, someone that I expect to be with for a long time. However, if we should end up just friends, I am okay with that too. I have spent time building a relationship with one of the most important people there is – ME! Unfortunately, women often feel they need to jump right back into another relationship to be complete but the truth is, you can take some time for you and the kids, just enjoying life. When the time is right, that wonderful man will come into your life too – when you least expect it.
