Tithing Settlement: A Time to Reflect on Blessings

This time of a year is one where we get to reflect on the blessings of tithing. Tithing is a commandment that we learn about in Malachi. We should pay ten percent of our earnings in tithing each year. Tithing settlement is the time where we tell the bishop if we were able to pay a full tithe or not. It is also a time for the bishop to check on the status of each family during the year. Even if you have not paid a full tithing you should go tithing settlement to talk to the bishop. This is a time when the bishop can help you understand the blessings of tithing. Bishops do not yell or punish you if you do not pay your tithing.

Tithing settlement gives us the opportunity to recognize the blessings of tithing in our lives. The commandment of tithing comes with accompanying promise we will receive blessings when we pay. The blessings may be tangible or they may be spiritual. When we pay tithing we are closer to the Lord. It can help us to feel the spirit in our lives.

Sometimes the blessings from tithing are not things that we receive, but are things that are prevented from happening. Our family may be healthier or our cars may run longer as a result of paying our tithing. We may be able to stretch our budgets to cover our minimum expenses a little bit easier by paying our tithing.

Tithing is a way that we can help others as well. Our tithing goes to help fund the activities of the church, to build churches and temples. It goes throughout the world to support the growth of the church. We can also help others through paying generous fast offerings. How has tithing blesses your life?
