Designer Dogs

I am not into any kind of hype. In fact, hype annoys me. That is why whenever I hear about these “celebrity mixes” or fancy dog breeds I roll my eyes.

You know what I am talking about.

Jessica Simpson has a Malti-poo.

So and so has a Labradoodle.

According to CNN.com, “Sought-after mixes, some of which can fetch up to $4,000, are the labradoodle, a cross between the Labrador and the poodle; the schnoodle, a schnauzer-poodle mix; the goldendoodle, a golden retriever-poodle mix; the cockapoo, a cocker spaniel-poodle match; and the yorkipoo, a cross between a Yorkshire terrier and a poodle.”

There is nothing wrong with having a dog that’s a mixed breed, more commonly known as a mutt, but my problem is that people are making profit off of this.

Greedy and selfish people are breeding these dogs (without considering their health might I add) and charging enormous fees for them. Since when do mixed breeds cost $4,000? On that note, since when does any dog cost $4,000?

But I don’t know who is to blame; the people who breed the dogs or the people who buy the dogs.

When you think about it, this has gotten quite ridiculous.

What’s next? Mixing a Chihuahua with a Doberman? Chi-Dober?

What about crossing a Pug with a Pekingese? That would be a disaster as both dogs have eyes that easily pop out of their sockets. A Newfoundland and a Saint Bernard would a create a very large dog that is crippled as both of these dogs are prone to hip dysplasia.

I am not joking when I say that I found someone selling Morkies and Shorkies. It disgusts me but at the same time I have to laugh.

There are many mixed breed dogs in shelters that need homes. There is no reason to go out and spend all this money so you can feel like a celebrity. Besides, reputable breeders do not breed to make a profit; they breed to enhance the quality of the breed as a whole.

I think I am going to get that new Bull Dog crossed with a Shih-Tzu.
