Toddler Creations

I love how creative my son is. Has your toddler built a tower out of blocks lately? Have they decorated the refrigerator with magnets or stickers? Have you shown them how to glue pieces of paper together? Have they drawn with markers on some of their toys or books? I call these “toddler creations” and I love to collect and photograph them.

I want to remember, years from now, what toddler creations my son has made. I want to show off his creative ideas in his scrapbook. I want to share his creativity with our friends and family by letting him draw on cards and letters.

The toddler imagination is a beautiful thing. I love watching my son build towers as tall as he is out of plastic blocks. I give him markers and card stock, so he can draw and unleash his creativity. I want to encourage him to be creative and make his own special creations using whatever materials he has available.

Let’s look at some of the toys and media available for toddlers that help them explore their creative side:

*Sidewalk Chalk

*Crayola “Color Wonder” activity pads and markers

*Crayons and coloring books

*Dry erase board and markers

*Plastic “Mega Bloks”

*Magnetic letters and shapes

*Wooden blocks

*Magnetic sketch boards

If your child is an artist and loves drawing on magnetic sketch boards, consider taking a digital photo of the drawing before your child erases it. You can print it out and use it in a scrapbook project.

The same goes for the art that is created with sidewalk chalk on your patio or driveway. Let your child draw and create their own masterpieces, then have your child stand, kneel or lay on the sidewalk near their drawing. Take a picture of them with their artwork. It makes a great photo and captures a memory in the making.

Capturing memories and keeping creative art that is lovingly made by your toddler is what parents do. We understand their value and we want to maximize their love of art and the use of their imaginations.
