Toddler Rocking Horses

A cherished gift given to many babies and toddlers is a rocking horse. Whether it is made of wood or plastic, rocking horses are sure to get plenty of attention from toddlers.

For Christmas this year, my son received “Legend,” the rocking horse with movement and sound. He is plush and comes with his own brush. His mouth moves when he sings. He makes galloping sounds while being ridden. My son loves how “life-like” he is. When his ear is pressed, he neighs and moves his tail.

It seems that all toddlers love rocking horses. I know I did when I was a little kid. I had one of the older plastic riding horses that were popular in the early 1980s. I remember spending countless hours on it. I’m sure most of us had them.

It is funny how much of a difference there is in the rocking horses they are making today and those from when I was a child. It makes me wonder how realistic rocking horses will be twenty years from now.

I wish I had saved the rocking horse I had when I was a kid. Since mine was plastic, I guess it wouldn’t have held up well. That is another plus of the solid wood rocking horses. They truly are timeless.

I am glad that rocking horses are still popular and that my son is getting to enjoy his. He rides the horse and exerts energy by bouncing. This is great for burning energy on rainy days and other days that he doesn’t get to go outside.

The horse we chose to give my son will hold up to 100 pounds so it will grow with him for quite some time. My son is small for his age and will not outgrow this horse for several years. It makes it a very worthwhile purchase.

The fun doesn’t stop when we leave the house. My son runs to the rocking horse every time we go to “Cracker Barrel” and climbs on it. He’ll ride it while we are looking around the store or waiting on a table.

The riding horse at “Chuck E Cheese” is a hit with my son as well. Although it isn’t the traditional rocking horse, it does move and it is a horse. That’s good enough for my son.

Be it wooden, plush or plastic, I’ve never met a toddler who didn’t love or have some form of a rocking horse. Have you?
