Tool Organizer for Dad

When we were kids, my dad was a stickler for keeping his tools where they belonged. When he went to find his hammer, he wanted to find it in its place. When he wanted his screwdriver, he didn’t want to have to search through all the drawers in the house. These days, with his cat less likely to run off with the tape measure than me or my sister, things tend to stay put a little better, but let’s face it, tools and such do have a way of wandering around.

To help out dad this Father’s Day, why not make him a tool organizer that will leave no question where that hammer should go.

What you need:

Pegboard that can mount on a wall

Pegs

Permanent marker

Dad’s favorite, most-used tools (he won’t miss them for a few hours…we hope!)

Duct Tape.

1. Choose about six of dad’s tools that he uses the most and will want to have handy.

2. Set up the pegboard an experiment with hanging the tools in a logical, pleasing way. Insert the pegs and hang the tools.

3. Trace around each tool on to the pegboard with a permanent marker. You don’t have to trace exactly–you want to trace about a half in away from the tools all the way around.

4. Edge the pegboard in duct tape to “frame” it. Write “Dad’s Tools” on the duct tape at the top, or all the way around.

5. Hang it up in the garage or workroom for a Father’s Day surprise!

If you want to make something on a smaller scale, or if Dad works more in his office than in the garage, you can make the same thing for office tools. Choose a smaller pegboard and maybe paint it a color to match the office decor. Hang scissors, tape, a ruler, and other office essentials.
