Top 5 Things To Do On A Rainy Day

1. Dance. Since your children can’t exercise outside and run off their pent up energy a rainy day is a great time to put on some music and let your children dance. My kids have fun dancing to kids tunes, music I grew up listening to as well as more modern artists. I often dance with them and get my exercise for the day in as well.

2. Put on a puppet show. Puppets are always a lot of fun especially when you can’t play outside. My children love putting on puppet shows for my husband and I. We have video taped some of their shows. They really enjoy watching themselves perform. Read my blog “Put On A Puppet Show“ to learn about the value of puppet shows and some ideas on making your own puppets.

3. Cook. My children have so much fun cooking in the kitchen with me. We make bread, cookies, and other things. Filling your house with the smell of freshly baked cookies is a great way to spend a rainy day. For more ideas on cooking with your children read my blog “Cooking With Your Kids“.

4. Play with play dough. Break out the play dough or make some of your own. Let your children use their imaginations as they sculpt the dough. Provide your children with rolling pins and cookie cutters for some added entertainment.
The other day my daughter made everyone in the family out of play dough. Although she needed some help making her glasses.

5. Build a tent. Get out some sheets or blankets put the backs of your couches near each other or use chairs and make a tent. Many a rainy day has been passed at our home under the cover of a sheet tent. Drag pillows and blankets in and pretend to roast marshmallows like you were really camping. Get out the flashlights and read or tell stories to your children in your makeshift tent.
