Top 6 Uses for Vinegar that will Save You Money

Vinegar is amazingly inexpensive and can help all around the house. Not only is it inexpensive and handy, but it is the safest chemical you could ever use around the house!

1. Use vinegar to remove tough berry and wine stains from clothes. I have a son who loves eating fresh berries, but he generally leaves evidence all over his shirts. Just rinse the stain with cold water and then soak it in white vinegar overnight. Wash normally the next day. This trick will save you money on stain treatments.

2. Save your spray bottles and use a 50/50 vinegar and water mixture to wash your windows. Use an old newspaper instead of a paper towel. The newspaper won’t leave paper towel lint or streaks on your windows. Why waste money on Windex and Bounty when you can use inexpensive vinegar, a recycled spray bottle and yesterday’s newspaper?

3. Got a slow drain? Don’t send good money down it! Drop 1 tablespoon baking soda in the drain and follow with 1 cup vinegar. Let it sit for 1 hour and then rinse. Do this once a month to keep your drains clear and odor free. I used to spend a ton on Liquid Plumr!

4. Got ants? We had the worst ant problem along the driveway crease where our garage door comes down. Since my son is out there every day, I don’t want the ants there nor do I want my son near harsh chemicals. I filled a clean spray bottle with straight white vinegar and sprayed the ants and their homes. They’ve been gone for over a month now. If they come back, my spray bottle is ready. This thrifty trick saved me from buying expensive ant killers and keeps my home chemical free and baby safe.

5. Run 1 cup of white vinegar through your dishwasher once a month to remove soap residue. You’ll notice your glasses come out with fewer spots and streaks throughout the month.

6. Run a pot full of white vinegar through your drip coffee maker once a month. (Be sure to run about 3 pots of clean, cold water through afterwards.) This keeps your coffee maker free of mineral buildup and allows the great taste of your coffee to shine through.
