Transform a Room with Accessories

Are you bored with a certain space in your home? You don’t have to paint, move furniture, or spend a lot of money to give it a quick pick-me-up. Instead, simply change the accessories, or at least some of them.

Getting Started

Just as designers begin a room makeover by emptying the space; it makes sense to remove all the accessories from the room you wish to freshen up. Look at the space once the items have been cleared. Imagine how different types of decorative pieces will look in the space. Look around your home for items you can use in that room, and then do a little shopping for some new accessories too.

Placing Accessories

Decide which areas need more height and look for taller pieces that could help provide that balance. Don’t forget plants when considering accessories. A great planter or urn with some greenery can instantly dress up an empty area, as will a decorative vase with a few fresh flowers. Also, be sure to add bursts of color and some texture throughout the room.

Mixing and Matching

If you add a certain color in one area, be sure to use it again throughout the space. By giving the space some balance, the overall look will be more attractive. This doesn’t mean you have to strictly stick to one or two colors. If you love color, go ahead and be daring. Just repeat each color throughout the room often enough that it looks cohesive. For example, each grouping of accessories should contain at least some of your favored colors. To use many colors together, try to choose those that blend well or those that offer the perfect contrast. Using a neutral backdrop for a room filled with color will help ensure that it doesn’t look overdone.
