Certainly summer is the time for vacations, travel and family adventures. Unfortunately the cost of travel can take much of the fun out of the trip. Let’s explore some ways to save a little money, allowing your family a more extravagant escapade without breaking the bank.

The bonding and memories created when parents leave work and household behind are the cream of childhood. When it comes to big savings while traveling there are really too main scenarios. One is to plan way in advance; the other is to plan last minute. Middle range planning actually tends to provide you the least savings.
Long range travel planning presents you the opportunity to select from a wide variety of available options. This allows you to shop around for the best deals as well as buy the cheapest airline tickets. What some people do not know, the first seats sold on a plan are usually the cheapest. As a plane fills, the seats go up in price. Many travel destinations, hotels, resorts, will also offer price breaks to those who book at least a year in advance, especially if they offer to pay a portion upfront. Even if they don’t advertise this savings, it is worth asking about if you are an advanced planner. Amazing to some, many travel costs are negotiable. It is always worth the attempt.
On the flip side, there is the last minute planner. What this type experiences is certainly a lack of options; but if you are flexible, this can be an incredible opportunity to save money. A good example is last minute airline fares. Many airlines have email newsletters sent out to subscribers advertising just these types of last minute deals. Basically, they have a great incentive to fill a plane and will usually sell those last couple of seats at a good bargain. Now you may have to be flexible on when and where you fly… but you can often save over 50% on plane tickets. These types of last minute scheduling and money saving opportunities exist for many travel options. It may take a little more work calling around looking for last minute cancellations. But, if saving money is your game, then let it be a part of your fun adventure. Then, surprise the family with their vacation destination. A new way to tackle the quest!
Given these two choices, you can either start planning next summer’s vacation today or look for an unexpected adventure tomorrow. Either way, the opportunity to save money in your travel budget is there.
