Travel: Think Pink

If you didn’t already know October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In recognition of the 31-day celebration, dozens of companies are offering items from cosmetics and clothing to kitchen appliances and travel accessories in various shades of pink (or that bear a pink ribbon, the symbol of awareness of the disease). A percentage of sales of each item will go toward breast cancer research and the search for a cure.

I listed some pink items in a previous blog, but I am encouraging you to think pink when it comes to travel as well. The profits from the following travel-related items also go to help raise awareness about the deadly disease. Among them a “Travel Pink” travel package in paradise.

The Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort & Spa located in breathtaking Honolulu, Hawaii has launched a “Travel Pink” room package in support of the cause. The package is available through December 20th. Prices for the package start at $183 per night and include an amenity of a black micro-fiber tote bag with a custom-designed pink breast cancer ribbon imprint. Inside the bag is a floral pink breast cancer cloisonné pin; a “Support Breast Cancer Research” bracelet; a stainless steel bullet thermos; Mandara Spa bath salts and oatmeal soap; and discount certificates for dining and spa treatment.

For you travelers who like to live life in the fast lane, you may consider purchasing BMW’s Pink Ribbon Collection, which includes items such as a $12 charm key chain. The sales will benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

If you can’t leave home without knowing what time it is, Coach is offering a Gallery Breast Cancer Watch with three interchangeable bezels. It retails for $398 ($100 of that will be donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation) in Coach stores through the end of the year.

Now that the liquid and gel ban has been lifted on U.S. flights there’s no reason not to pick up a few Sephora products. The company is offering a plethora of cosmetic items, from Philosophy’s “Shower for the Cure” ($20) to Go Smile Morning Rush toothpaste ($5); sales from both items will benefit the Women’s Cancer Research Fund and Komen Foundation.

According to the American Cancer Society, breast cancer strikes more than 200,000 and kills more than 40,000 in the United States annually. Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women and the second leading cause of cancer death for women, trailing lung cancer.
