Travel Tidbits: Paul McCartney Slept Here and American Girl’s New Home

PAUL MCCARTNEY SLEPT HERE

Well, not exactly, but he could the next time he needs a place to crash in Liverpool, England. And he’d probably feel right at home. After all, the Hard Days Night Hotel is the world’s only boutique lodging, with Beatles-themed rooms and suites. The most luxurious are the John Lennon and Paul McCartney suites, which will set you back about $1,000 per night. Standard rooms run between $240 and $315 per night. The hip hotel even offers guests the opportunity to sign up for tours of Liverpool locales associated with the Fab Four.

AMERICAN GIRL’S NEW HOME

The doll store that I’ve been a fan of long before I gave birth to my own daughter is getting a new address.

American Girl Place in Chicago is moving up and into massive digs in the Water Tower Place shopping mall (not far from its current location just off of Michigan Avenue).

The store, which attracts more than a million visitors per year, is one of the Windy City’s most popular tourist attractions. And now even more doll toting, tea sipping mother daughter duos will be able to shop ‘til they drop when the store makes its move in October.

The new shop is being billed as the largest American Girl Place in the country. It will feature 52,000 square feet vs. the current 40,000. Included in the expansion will be a new and improved café where girls, their dolls, plus a parent or two can dine on finger sandwiches and indulge on sweet treats. The store will also feature a new area for special events and other experiences to be announced later.

The American Girl Place Chicago might be the biggest, but the store’s other locations in New York and L.A. are nothing to sneeze at. Both offer tea and birthday parties and the chance to get your daughter’s favorite doll’s hair styled. The Atlanta and Dallas American Girl boutiques are smaller in size, but your little ones can still pick up another friend or two from the multiethnic “Just Like You” line or choose from hundreds of outfits and accessories for the dolls they already own.
