Tween Crafts: Cool for School

Your tween can start a trend with cool stuff for school. If other kids ask where they got this cool stuff, your son or daughter can say, “I made it.” Your child can have fun showing friends how to make these items, or they may want to make extras to give away.

Hot Stuff for Cool Storage

Pick up a clear plastic pencil case. Let your child cut a picture from his or her favorite pop culture magazine. A band, a celebrity, anything that’s hot right now, will work. Slip the picture into the pencil case (if you can turn it inside easily that will work even better). Apply clear contact paper from the backside, covering the entire picture.

Your kids can cut the name of the band from the magazine and attach it to a pencil with contact paper to match the pencil case. Do the same with binders or folders for a matching set.

*If you can’t find any good pix in magazines, try to find some online that you can print.

Super Star Locker Decorations

Take an old CD and trace it on the back of a picture of a favorite band or celebrity. Cut out the image and glue it to the CD. Glue some string or ribbon around the edge. Add a magnet to the back (or double-faced foam tape) and you have a cool new way to decorate a locker. Kids can also make copies of photos and follow these instructions to make locker decorations featuring pictures of a girlfriend, boyfriend, or best friend.

CD Pen and Pencil Holder

Decorate an old CD any way you like. Add a sturdy magnet or strips of double-faced foam tape to the back. Add a strip of Velcro, or a similar product that has an adhesive backing, across the front. Wrap strips of Velcro around pens, pencils, highlighters, Sharpies, etc. and stick them to the holder so they’re always within reach.

*Remember, if you use double-faced foam tape you’ll have to remove it from the locker completely at the end of the year, so look for the pull away kind.
