Two Favorite Ways to Save Money in the Kitchen

Saving money in the kitchen is one of my favorite ways to save money. I am not sure if it is because I thoroughly enjoy cooking and baking or if it is just because with such a large family, we have to find ways to save money. I have been collecting ideas and tips for as long as I can remember.

I refuse to share a tip in this article unless I have tried it out for myself and see that it works. These tips are all things I do in the kitchen myself, are super easy and save quite a bundle in a years time. Here are five of my favorite tips to save some cash in the kitchen.

1. Cheese – Shredded cheese at the store is extremely expensive. It can really add up if you prepare a lot of casseroles and other meals that require grated cheese. Consider making your own for dollars less, and it is super easy to do. Purchase a block of any type of cheese you need shredded. Freeze the block overnight. The following day take it out and thaw it. Now go ahead and shred it with a shredding block. It will basically fall off the cheese and crumble. It’s perfect for cooking!

2. Bananas – Do your bananas seem to go bad really quickly? They get soft and squishy and gross. Here’s a way to prolong them and while they sure look gross on the outside, they are as delicious as if you just brought them home. Place your bananas in the refrigerator. I will tell you that they will turn brown and black and look awful. However, they will taste amazing up to ten days later. Just don’t let the kids see the black or they might be fooled by the outside appearances.

More tips will be revealed throughout the next week or so. Do you have any good ideas to share?
