Under $3.00 Decorating Idea

Several ideas for Frugal Decorating with Flea Market Finds, led to this article. I wanted to show you what I have done. Yes, even with pictures so you do not have to just envision it, but you also have the chance to see what I have done.

First, over my fireplace, we have a beautiful painting that we paid under $50.00 for completely matted and framed at a starving artists show. For a long time, we had nothing on the mantel, except the occasional holiday cards and the beautiful painting above the mantle. When we decided to tear up the carpet and place hardwood throughout, we wanted to decorate the living room a little and make it prettier and more cozy.

I had gone to the dollar store and purchased two crystal wine glasses, two crystal tumblers, a bag of natural colored pebbles, two medium sized scented candles and four small scented votive candles. For this entire project, I only paid $8.00. When I was finished with the project, I still have pebbles left over for other projects as well as two votive candles leftover.

Here is what I did for under $3.00:

Project #1 – Tumbler Candles

I removed the sticker from the bottom of the tumblers, and washed both of the glasses to remove all of the residue. We then opened the bag of natural smooth pebbles, and poured some into each of the tumblers. Taking two of the votive candles, we rooted one into each glass, making sure the pebbles were surrounding them to keep the candles sturdy. And then we were done. Look how great this looks. Cost of this part of the project? $1.00 for the tumbler, $1.00 for the pebbles that were used on more than one project, and $1.00 for four votive candles. Less than $3.00 for two tumbler candle projects.

A little later, I am going to show you another way to do this a similar project and then I am going to show you how I did a project from another article. Please stay with me in the Frugal blog and feel free to tell me about any cool ideas you have tried.
