Upcoming Genealogy Events – December 2011

Newberry Library We are getting close to the end of November. Between Thanksgiving, Black Friday Sales, and shopping for holiday gifts, people have suddenly become really busy. Perhaps you will have time to check out a genealogy conference or workshop in December. One of them might be taking place near you!

The Niles District Library, is located in Niles, Michigan. The Local History and Genealogy Department o the Niles District Library will be hosting a series of events that are designed for people who are beginners at genealogy. The next one will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2011, from 10:00 in the morning, to 12:30 in the afternoon.

The George Memorial Library is located in Richmond, Texas. It will hold a “Genealogy 101” program on Tuesday, December 6, 2011, at 10:00 in the morning. This program will give you a basic introduction to the genealogy resources that you can access from the library. It will also go over how to use Ancestry.com and the Heritage Quest USA database.

The George Memorial Library will have a “Facebook for Genealogy” class on Tuesday, December 13, 2011. It will begin at 10:00 in the morning, in the computer lab. People who attend this class should create a Facebook account before coming to class. It is recommended that you take the time to become familiar with how to use Facebook before you attend this class.

The Cook Memorial Library is located in Libertyville, Illinois. The Ansel Brainerd Cook Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution holds genealogy workshops here on the second Wednesday of each month. The next one will be held on December 14, 2011, from 10:00 in the morning until 2:00 in the afternoon.

The Newberry Library is located in Chicago, Illinois. On December 16, 2011, Christina Bannon, Registrar of the Chicago Chapter of the DAR will be available at the Newberry Library to provide lookups in the DAR’s database. She will also be providing advice about the DAR application process. Christina will in the General Reading Room, on the second floor of the library, from 9:30 in the morning until 4:00 in the afternoon. You do not need to make an appointment in order to speak with her.

The Family History Library is located in Salt Lake City, Utah. It will hold the 27th annual Salt Lake Christmas Tour from December 4, 2011, through December 10, 2011. There will be a lot of professional researchers attending this event, including GenealogyBlog Editor Leland K. Meitzler.
