Upcoming Genealogy Events – Week of December 4, 2011

Indiana State Library Looking for a genealogy event, conference, or class? There could be one happening soon, located near where you live. Check out this quick list of upcoming genealogy events that will be taking place this week. You could also browse through your local newspaper, to find out about more genealogy events.

On December 6, 2011, the George Memorial Library, which is located in Richmond, Texas, will hold a “Genealogy 101” program. It will start at 10:00 in the morning. This program will give you a basic introduction to the genealogy resources that you can access from the library. It will also go over how to use Ancestry.com and the Heritage Quest USA database.

On December 6, 2011, the Zerger Hall Senior Center, located in Newark, Ohio, will hold the Licking County Genealogy Society’s annual Christmas potluck. It will begin at 6:00 in the evening. The event is free, (but a monetary donation to the food pantry is requested). Participants should bring a covered dish or dessert to share.

On December 7, 2011, the Indiana State Library, located in Indianapolis, Indiana, will hold a genealogy workshop called “The Orphan Trains in America, 1850 – 1930”. It will begin at 10:30 in the morning, and end at 11:30 in the morning. Genealogy collection librarian Leesa Shanahan will explain how to trace the biological families of the children who were transported by train from New York City to live with families in the Midwest.

On December 9, 2011, The National Archives, located in Kansas City, Missouri, will have a free workshop. The workshop is called “Preserving Family Memories”. The workshop will cover oral interviews, physical preservation, and reading old script. The workshop will begin at 10:00 in the morning.

On December 9, 2011, the Trinity Lutheran Church, located in San Angelo, Texas, will hold the SAGHS annual Christmas party. It will begin at 6:30 in the evening. There will be Christmas refreshments, a bake sale, a silent auction, and a craft and collectibles sale. Member speakers will present Christmas themed family history/genealogy stories.

On December 10, 2011, the Town Clerk’s Office, located in Hartford, Connecticut, will have the annual Genealogy Road Show. It will begin at 9:00 in the morning, and will end at 1:00 in the afternoon. It will take place in the Town Clerk’s Office in Town Hall.
