Upcoming Genealogy Events – Week of February 12, 2012

taking notes Learning more about your favorite hobby, genealogy, is always interesting! A fun way to do that is to attend a genealogy workshop, class, or event that is located near where you live. Here are a few upcoming genealogy events, from all around the United States, that will be happening this week.

On February 13, 2012, the Jefferson County Genealogical Society, which is located in Port Townsend, Washington, will present the third part of a five-week genealogy course. The course is called “Introduction to Family Research History”. It provides an overview of the basic steps for successful genealogy research.

On February 15, 2012, the Morningside Branch Library, which is located in Port St. Lucie, Florida, will present a genealogy lecture called “Simplify Your Research”. It is presented by Patti Kirk, a local historian and genealogist. It will begin at 9:45 in the morning, and end at 11:45 in the morning.

On February 16, 2012, the Lake Villa District Library, located in Lake Villa, Illinois, will hold a genealogy program called “No Birth Certificate, No Problem!”. It will start at 1:00 in the afternoon, and end at 2:30 in the afternoon. It will be presented by Jeff Bockman. Learn how to use other resources and records to determine when a person was born, and who their parents were.

On February 18, 2012, the History Center, located in South Bend, Indiana, will have two genealogy programs that are being offered by the Indiana Historical Society. Both are given by Thomas McEntee, a professional genealogist.

“What’s In Your Genealogical Toolbox?” will begin at 10:00 in the morning, and will end at noon. This program covers the basics about how to create a research “toolbox”. The program will be followed by another one, called “Blog Your Ancestors: Read ‘Em, Write ‘Em, Find ‘Em”. It will begin at 1:00 in the afternoon, and end at 3:00 in the afternoon. It gives you instruction on how to utilize blogs to discover and record family history research leads.

Also on February 18, 2012, the First Presbyterian Church, located in Santa Barbara, California, will hold a presentation where genealogists can learn about the 200-year-old Torah restoration project that is being undertaken by Santa Barbara’s Congregation B’nai B’rith. This presentation will begin at 10:30 in the morning.

Before the featured presentation starts, there will classes for special interest genealogy groups. They include Beginning Genealogy, German Ancestry, Italian Ancestry, and Computer Genealogy. All of those will begin at 9:30 in the morning. A class on JewishGen will begin at 9:00 that morning.
