Every week, there are plenty of genealogy events, classes, and workshops going on for genealogists to attend. All you have to do is find them, and figure out what is required in order for you to attend. Here is a quick list of a few of the genealogy events that will happen this week. One might be located near where you live!
From July 2 through July 8, 2012, the Longview Public Library, which is located in Longview, Texas, will celebrate its Twenty-Fifth Anniversary. This week-long celebration will include a focus on history and genealogy. The highlight of the week will happen be the “Party on the Plaza” which will happen on July 4, 2012, starting at 2:00 in the afternoon. All of the events for the entire week will be free.
On July 2, 2012, Ancestry.com LIVE will have a live webinar. This one is called “Behind the Scenes: AncestryDNA”. It will begin at 3:00 in the afternoon, and will end at 3:30 in the afternoon EDT.
On July 6, 2012, the Freeman Branch Library, which is located in Houston, Texas, will hold a “Genealogy on a Budget” event. It will begin at 10:30 in the morning. It will be presented by Jorie Nissian, who is a reference librarian at Freeman Branch Library.
On July 7, 2012, the Delaware Public Archives, which is located in Dover, Delaware, will hold a free genealogy presentation. It will be presented by genealogist Nancy Lyons. She will teach you how to create your own family tree. She also will talk about research techniques for vital statistics, census reports, and probate records.
On July 7, 2012, Sams House at Pine Island , which is located on Merritt Island, Florida, will have a free presentation in their “Explore our History” Series. The first one will be presented by travel writer and historian Dianne Marcum. She will take you on a journey through the History of Travel and Tourism in Brevard County. This will begin at 10:00 in the morning until 11:00 in the morning.
From July 8 through July 29, 2012, the CK Gallery, which is located in Oakland, California, will hold an art exhibit called “I Am America: Black Genealogy through the Eye of an Artist”. It is an art exhibition that teaches the community about Black History. The curator is Kheven LaGrone, a San Francisco artist who is known for combining social issues and art.
