Using Song Lyrics on Your Layouts

Having trouble finding the right words? Using some song lyrics on your scrapbook layouts is a great way to convey a feeling or emotion. Sometimes a song’s lyrics say it better than we can on our own. The best part of using lyrics in our journaling and on our pages, is the fact that there are so many different ways to do it.

Titles

song lyrics with scrapbooking layoutsUse the title of a famous song to title your scrapbook page. In some of the examples, I used titles from well-known songs as the title of my layout. You don’t even have to add any more lyrics, you can just leave the title as is. A strong title is quite powerful on a layout, and using one that is popular or well known can speak volumes on your page.

Clips and Quotes

Perhaps you only want to use a portion of the song. Maybe one or two lines? Or maybe just the chorus? Perhaps you have a photograph of your child playing the piano. You could use the lines from the very famous song by Billy Joel in a quote box: “Sing us a song, you’re the piano man. Sing us a song tonight. Well, were all in the mood for a melody. And you’ve got us feeling alright.”

The Whole Song

In the example layout I created about my dad, I included lyrics from two songs that have reminded me of him for years, since his death. I titled the page using a clip out of the chorus of one of the songs, and then displayed the lyrics as borders running down each side of the page. I hid my personal journaling beneath flaps that are underneath the photographs.

Personally, I think that using song lyrics is a lot of fun on layouts. Sometimes I will even hear a song and can dream and imagine a whole layout that goes with it. See if you can try that this week. Listen to some of your favorite songs, find photographs or stage a few to go with them, and create using the lyrics, title or a clip. Have a great time!
