Using the Web to Connect With Other Single Parents

Being a single parent can lead to a feeling of isolation and loneliness, but the Internet provides us with so many places to connect with other parents in similar situations. These sites, often referred to as online communities or social network sites, allow single moms and dads to connect with others for friendship, advice, and even dating. Some popular social network sites include Facebook, CafeMom, and MySpace, but there are several sites dedicated to single parents.

I Heart Single Parents: I Heart Single Parents claims to be the best online community for single parents. Users can create a free account, design a profile, and add & chat with other single moms and dads. I personally use this site and highly recommend it. It is not as popular and “busy” as sites like Facebook, but it does connect you with other parents who can relate to what you are going through.

Single Dad Network: As a single mom, I am not a member or user of the Single Dad Network, but I did take a look around the site in order to share it with you here. This site looks very promising if you are a single dad. Users can post blogs (called diaries on the site), read advice articles, and connect with other single dads in the online community. They also offer “real life” meetups.

Meetup: Meetup has been around for a long time. This site offers people of all interests & groups to create pages for real life meetups. Once such interest group is the single parents meetups. Once you are on the site, simply scroll or search through the various single parents groups to find one in your community. You can then join the group, chat online, connect with other single parents in your area, and set up a time to meet in person.
