Video Glasses

I was talking to friend of mine who had a root canal this week about her dentist experience. When I asked about her surgery I expected to hear tales of her painful dental experience, but instead she told me about the movie she watched while the surgery was going on.

Watch a movie during surgery? It would seem like the dentist would get in the way of you seeing the screen especially while he’s doing a root canal. Most of the time I go to the dentist I am also asked to close my eyes to keep out potential flying debris from my mouth, so that would make movie watching extra difficult.

Apparently her dentist is one of the first to get video glasses. Video glasses allow you to put on a pair on glasses and have your own personal show going on a floating screen that appears to be a few feet from your face. Pretty nifty.

When she got to the dentists office he gave her a list of about fifty movies to choose from and she was able to select a film to watch while she was having her root canal. The dentist plugged her glasses and a pair of earphones into a DVD player and she was able to watch while he worked.

One downside to watching a movie during dental work is she said she could still hear him in her mouth which was somewhat jarring while trying to get into watching a movie.

When I got home I started to look for the video glasses on the internet and found an article on them on popular sciences website. Apparently the glasses can be plugged into your laptop or your personal DVD player making watching DVDs in the car or on a plane much more enjoyable.

Before we know it the only thing we’ll need to go to the movies is a pair of glasses.
