Video Sharing Sites On The Web

Video sharing is becoming a popular hobby on the web. Everyday it seems like I get another link in my inbox to some fantastic video that I *have* to see. I have to admit looking at funny video on the internet can be a fun thing to do when you’re bored and looking for something quick to fill the time.

Sony recently purchased the video site Grouper for $65 million dollars. Grouper is a video sharing site where users can upload their personal videos to the site, and share them with others. The site is divided up into sub-categories like pets, sports, and films. Users can click on a subsection that interests them, look at the most popular video on the site, or go directly to the video that has been passed on the most by other people.

Another popular website for video sharing is YouTube. YouTube is usually the video sharing site you are sent to when you receive a link in your e-mail. YouTube will also sort video by category as well as display the most popular video of the moment. One neat feature of YouTube in my opinion is that it gives users the ability to post links to their video in a blog or on a personal website. You see a lot of YouTube links on sites like Myspace and Blogger.

One growing trend on the internet is vlogging, or video blogging where users will create video blogs rather than written ones and post them on their web pages. Some companies are even requiring workers to create and update a video blog on the internet.

Both Grouper and YouTube require you to have the latest version of Flash installed in order to view the video. Once you have flash no download is required to your PC to view video so you can view all you want without fear of filling your computer with extraneous files.
