Warm Up Empty Corners, Part II

Continuing with the theme of warming up corners, here are a few more ideas to help you fill empty spaces in your home:

Add Plants

Add a tall plant or a great tree to any corner. An up-light behind it will make it even more dramatic. You can also add a plant stand and fill it will select plants, grasses, naturals, or flowers, to bring some life and some color to the corner. If you use one type of plant, try using an interesting assortment of planters or pots.

Use Oversized Candleholders

Oversized candlesticks and candle stands also work great in corners, so add two or three or more. They can match or they can be very different in style, but they should all be different heights to keep things interesting. Choose candles that are the proper scale for the candleholders. Candles that are too small or too large will make the arrangement look awkward. Also, when using scented candles, it is a good idea to choose them in all the same scent, or make sure the scents complement each other.

Add an Umbrella Stand

Umbrella stands may seem somewhat old-fashioned, but they are actually very cool. You can choose from some very modern, interesting styles. This is a great way to add both art and function to a corner. Fill the umbrella stand with umbrellas that fun, whimsical, and colorful.

Inject Some Light

Another great way to warm up a corner is to add some lighting. A great floor lamp, or a cool pendant light will add instant charm. Today, you don’t have to go with a plain torchiere or a retro style hanging globe. There are plenty of attractive, updated styles from which to choose. By adding lighting to the corner, you will also add more light to the rest of the main space, and make the entire room feel warmer.
