Ways to Suppress Hunger

Half the time, I know I eat because I am bored or stressed. Sometimes I find myself eating when I know good and well that I am not hungry. I ran across an email the other day titled Natural Appetite Suppressors, so I decided to do some research to see what I could find to help me.

One that I know of (because my husband is always reminding me of it) is water. If you feel like eating something, drink some water. I try to remember this one because not only will the water make me feel full and suppress my appetite, I know drinking enough water each day is good for me yet I tend not to do it. I think it also helps your complexion, which I can use as well. If you’ve tried this and find water a bit boring, give hot tea a try.

If the water isn’t working, try taking a walk. This hopefully will not only get your mind off eating, it also burns calories – a win-win situation!

One appetite suppressor that I love, but that is often the hardest to conjure up is to distract yourself with something else. If I stop and notice the times that I overeat or eat when I am not hungry, more often than not, I am sitting in front of the television. Get up and do something when you are hungry. Scrapbook, wash clothes, read a good book, or organize your photos. I have a dozen things around the house that need to be done – I need to think of those when I want to eat then get up and get busy.

But what if you just have the munchies? Those times when you feel that you just HAVE to have something? When I watch “The Biggest Loser,” they always suggest sugar-free gum. Jillian and Bob say that it will suppress your appetite for only 10 calories.
