We Finally Have Life Insurance!

success My husband and I have been going through the stages and steps that are required in order to get approved for a life insurance policy. Today, we learned that each of us, individually, was, in fact, approved. It has been a long time since the whole process started. It is finally over, and we can feel a little more secure now that we both have the life insurance policies we have been trying for months to get. How did we manage that? I will explain the process.

We started this process back in September. My husband and I went to visit our insurance agent because our car insurance was ready to be renewed. While we were there, we asked our insurance agent about health insurance, and life insurance. After asking us a few questions, she was able to print out many pages of information. These pages included details about the cost of the monthly premiums, depending on what options we wanted.

The second step was to take the time to review the paperwork, and figure out if we could afford the premiums. It turned out that we could. This involved another visit with our insurance agent. Once there, we went over the paperwork again, answered a bunch of questions, and signed the policies. We also paid for the first month, and last month, for my husband’s life insurance policy, and the first month and last month of my life insurance policy. In other words, we paid for four months of premiums all at once.

The third step involved waiting for the underwriters to call us. The underwriters asked me and my husband, individually, a series of questions about our health. Many were repetitive. Quite a few were designed to determine if we smoked or used tobacco products. More than one question asked if we had HIV or AIDS. This phone call took around twenty minutes, from start to finish.

The fourth step involved more waiting. Then we received a phone call from the woman that was hired by our insurance company to give both me, and my husband, a quick physical. She came to our home, and it didn’t take very long to do. After this, we waited.. and waited…. and waited some more.

Today, November 6, 2010, almost two months since we started the process, we learned that we were both approved for our life insurance policies. Two large packets arrived in the mailbox today, one for each of us. It is such relief to finally have life insurance!
