The word “webinar” is a combination of the word “seminar” and “web”. It can be used for business meetings and trainings. Webinars are also often used for genealogy. Watching a good genealogy webinar is an effective way for genealogists to learn something new. Here are a few that you might want to check out this week.
Ancestry.com has a series of genealogy webinars that are streamed live through Livestream. I am fairly certain that they can be viewed for free. The have an archive of recorded webinars that are available for genealogists to view free of charge.
This week, there are two Ancestry.com LIVE genealogy webinars to check out. One will happen on August 7, 2012 at 1:00 in the afternoon to 2:00 in the afternoon EDT. This webinar is called “Finding Missing People in the Census”. The second webinar will happen on August 9, 2012, again, starting at 1:00 in the afternoon and ending at 2:00 in the afternoon EDT. The second one is titled: “Public vs. Private Online Trees”.
Legacy Family Tree has a genealogy webinar that will take place on August 8, 2012. It will begin at 2:00 in the afternoon and will end at 3:30 in the afternoon EDT. This webinar is called “Wikis for Genealogists”. It will be presented by Thomas MacEntee.
The purpose of this webinar is to teach genealogists how to use the various wiki platforms and to learn the basics of setting up a wiki for genealogy. There will be door prizes, discount coupons, and an opportunity for you to ask your questions at this webinar. To attend, you need to register on the Legacy Family Tree website.
Family Tree University has a genealogy webinar that will happen on August 9, 2012. This one is called “How to Preserve Precious Photos, Documents, and Heirlooms”. It will begin at 7:00 in the evening, Eastern Time. The presenter will be Denise May Levenick, and the entire webinar will last 60 minutes.
Unlike the webinars from Ancestry.com, this one is not free. It will cost $49.99 for genealogists to attend it. There is a discount available for people who sign up as “early birds”.
Family Tree University also has a Free On Demand Webinar that you can download. This one is called “Flip-Pal mobile scanner for Preserving Fabulous Family Photos Recording”.
It is presented by the Flip-Pal mobile scanner team, who show you how to use the device. This is a good resource for genealogists who have photos and documents that they want to digitize. To download the webinar, you must fill out the form on the Family Tree University website.
