Fasting is the abstaining of food for a period of time. Fasting is done for several reasons including weight loss, medical and spiritual reasons. Fasting for weight loss is done by many and weight loss is achieved, but it has been pretty much made clear it is not a healthy way to lose weight. The weight that you lose when you fast is fluid loss and it will be put back on just as fast as you lose it.
When you fast you slow down your metabolism. As soon as you start eating again you are at a disadvantage because of this. A healthy person should not be harmed by fasting for a couple of days, but any person with compromised health should not try fasting. You also should not partake in fasting if you are currently taking any kind of medication.
You should never really diet, but instead practice a new lifestyle that will not only rid you of excess pounds, but also help you to keep it off effortlessly with this new way of eating in combination with exercise. Healthy eating should consist of eating the basic food groups in moderation, lower your fat intake, exercise, increasing your sleep especially if you have been deficient in this and drinking plenty of water.
The medical profession does agree though that fasting before surgery and certain lab work is essential. Some health conditions, including psychological conditions may also benefit from fasting. Any person who fasts, however, should be closely supervised by their doctor. Speak to your physician regarding an effective dieting and fitness plan to help you shed unwanted pounds. It is best to avoid fasting for weight loss. A healthy lifestyle and exercise will get you to your goal in a safe way.
People with cardiac problems, compromised immune systems, hepatic or renal insufficiency and pregnant women should never fast.
