Weight Loss Camps

Weight loss camps, fitness camps, or “fat” camps as they were once known, can be helpful to some people who have tried at failed at other types of weight loss programs. The regimented program offered by these facilities is the key to its success, at least for the short term. After all, the participant must continue to follow the plan once they have left the camp.

Of course, not all of these weight loss camps are going to work for everyone, and the ones that will work the best are those that offer nutrition counseling, exercise, and low-calorie, nutritious, food choices as part of the program. Those who offer no more than quick weight-loss are not going to work for the average person. These quick loss plans are bested used only for those who have a small amount of weight to lose and need to do so within a short period of time such as models and actresses who need to lose ten to fifteen pounds before their next film or picture shoot. What the average person needs is to learn to live life differently, to eat nutritious foods that are going to allow them to maintain a healthy weight for the future.

Are these weight-loss camps good for the average person? Certainly, if you find the one that is right for you, the program will work. However, it does need to be a program that is based on nutrition, exercise, and the root of the eating problem. Yes, overeating is a problem and in most cases, there is a root to the problem, a reason a person eats too much, and it isn’t always because they just love to eat. A camp who offers psychological counseling for this purpose will allow the participant to get to the root of their problem and in turn, teach them to eat healthy and eat less. Sometimes it’s as simple as being in touch with the internal mechanism, which gives the signal that you are full. If this mechanism doesn’t work, you will continue to eat because the brain is not sending the signal to your stomach that you have had enough.

Sometimes a person will overeat because they are sad or lonely, and these issues can be addressed within the camp setting. All of the issues need to come together for it to be a successful stay, and that includes a regimen of exercise that will boost the metabolism and make the participant feel better about himself or herself. It takes more than just eating less, it’s learning to eat and live differently. Remember the saying, “Inside of every fat person is a skinny person trying to get out,” and that is so very true. No one is destined to be fat, but some people just need to be taught how to let that skinny person come out and play!
