What are You Doing for New Year’s Eve?

It’s official, you only have 15 days left to make New Year’s Eve plans if you haven’t already done so. That means it may be difficult to get reservations for many events or restaurants. It also may be difficult to find a babysitter if you need one, but don’t give up yet! Start making calls and you may still be able to pull it off. This happens to me often, because I’m never sure if my husband will be home for New Year’s Eve.

New Year's Eve DecorationsHere are some last minute ideas, in case you find yourself without a plan:

  • If you’re having trouble finding a babysitter, see if a friend who has a sitter will share. If this seems like too many children for one person to watch, see if the sitter has a friend or a sister that she can bring along with her.
  • If you’re favorite restaurant is booked, check out some places that aren’t quite as popular. It’s usually the hot spots that overbook quickly, so a nice little out of the way restaurant may still be able to accommodate you. You may just end up having a quiet, romantic dinner for two.
  • Check out hotels that offer holiday package deals. Many offer lounges with live entertainment, fine dining, and rooms with great amenities. You may be able to enjoy the whole evening and then retire to a beautiful room, all for a flat rate. *Maybe Grandma will have the kids over for a little party if you’re going to be out all night.
  • You could always throw a little party at home and invite some other couples over. Grab some streamers and party hats. Play board games, charades, or cards. Pick up a couple new games, if necessary. Decide if you want to have a full meal or just hors d’oeuvres, and ask everyone to bring something.
  • Sometimes just hanging out with your spouse, or your spouse and kids, can be fun too. Put up some New Year’s Eve decorations. Order a pizza, grab some movies and some sparkling cider or grape juice, and toast the beginning of a brand new year.

Warm wishes for a wonderful New Year!
