What Can You Do With Sugar Cookie Dough? A LOT!

If you’re like many households today, you’ve not only seen the prepared cookie dough in the refrigerated section of your grocery store, you’ve bought it—more than once. After all, how could you resist? Your kids wanted cookies NOW…and let’s be honest, so did you.

I happen to be a big fan of prepared cookie dough. In most varieties, it’s just as tasty as if I’d made it myself. And the wonderful part about it is that you can add almost anything to make a homemade creation of your own.

Try these ideas with your cookie dough:

1.Classic sugar cookies—get out your favorite holiday cutters and make some adorable and delicious goodies. The kids will have a great time helping you. Load up on yummy frosting and colorful sprinkles and you’ll have an afternoon of edible fun. Watch out for sneaky hands though—these go fast!

2.Use it as a pie crust—pat the dough into a deep dish pie pan and bake at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes. Then top with your favorite cold pie filling (ex. for a peanut butter pie) and refrigerate. YUM.

3.Bars—This dough is delicious for bar cookies. Make any creation you’d like. For starters, try placing the dough into a bowl and mixing in some white chocolate chips, milk chocolate chips, coconut, toffee bits, and vanilla extract with your hands. Then simply press the dough into an 9×11 or 13×9 dish and bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes until it’s cooked through and barely golden. Use your favorite canned vanilla frosting to top the cooled dough and top with additional chocolate and white chocolate chips, coconut flakes, and toffee bits. Delicious!

Sometimes the simplest things make the best desserts. Don’t be afraid to think outside the box a little—you might be surprised at what you come up with.

Happy baking!
