What I Can Not Do To Lose Weight

Well as I said last time I am starting my weight loss journey now and I know it is going to be tough. I have a husband who does not eat great and 3 kids who do like the idea of changing how we eat. I was determined to start this when I hit my five year cancer free mar. Once I hit that mark I started riding an exercise bike a few miles a day. I did this for about a month then I shattered the talus bone in my ankle and could not put any weight on it for 12 weeks.

When I was finally up and about again for about a month then I had to have surgery on that ankle and it has bothered me since the day I broke it. I had another surgery in September to start making scar cartilage so I finally am getting the all clear from the orthopedist so I can slowly start building up on the amount of weight I can put on my foot. Have you ever tried to put just 25% of your body weight on your foot? It is not easy but he is allowing me to start the bike as tolerated next week.

When you are a breast cancer survivor you need to consider a couple of things when you are starting an exercise program. First because I had lymph nodes removed I have to be careful with working my left arm too much or I run the risk of lymphedema. I also can’t do sit ups because of the TRAM flap reconstruction which uses my abdominal muscles to make “new girls”. Also on my left arm the shoulder muscle was rearranged to be my “left girl”.

The reason I mentioned the surgeries and my body rearrangement is because I need to be very careful with what I can and cannot do when it comes to exercise. I will really need to start working on eating better.

About Tammy Woolard

My name is Tammy and I am 40 year old mother of 3 wonderful children who came to us through domestic adoption. Although we did not have any fertility issues we chose adoption because there are so many kids that did not ask to be born but truly want a family to love. We did research on adoption choices and decided on domestic adoption through CPS. You would be surprised the differences between each agency. The adoption process is nothing like you see in the movies. I am also a 5 year breast cancer survivor. When I was diagnosed my kids were 3, 5 and 7 I did so much research I may have driven my Dr. a little crazy but that is ok it is my body not his.
