What is Circuit Training?

Some exercises are meant to help your cardiovascular system. Other exercises work on strength. However if you are looking for a fitness routine that does both then you might want to try circuit training.

Circuit training uses different types of weight machines. You do a series of exercises without stopping in between. This is typically done in a 10 or 15 minute time period. It may not sound like much but once you have worked your muscles for that period of time with no rest, you will feel it.

It doesn’t stop there however. After your first set you take a minute or two to hydrate yourself but then you get right back onto another set of exercises for another 10 or 15 minutes. You stop for a drink and then do your third and final set of exercises.

The point of this is to make sure that at some point in your exercising; you have worked every major muscle group in your body. You will also know if it has been a productive workout when your muscles feel pretty sore.

Now to some, like me, this doesn’t sound like much fun. But if you are motivated and willing to take some pain, it can do wonders for your cardiovascular system along with strengthening and toning your muscles.

Circuit training is not really something you should do everyday. Three to five times per week is probably ideal for most people.

Now you may be wondering about the equipment. To go out and purchase the equipment you would have to be pretty serious about sticking to this because it isn’t cheap. However some gyms will offer circuit training.

One place that has become popular in many states is “Curves,” a workout center for women. I used to belong to Curves a long time ago and really enjoyed the fact that it was just for women. They do circuit training and it really does make a difference.

So if you are looking for something new, something to strengthen your muscles that provides a great cardio workout then try circuit training.
