What is Classical Conversations

The classical homeschool movement has rallied in the last couple of years, and a new homeschool group concept has been born.

Classical Conversations is a community based homeschool program in the form of support groups that get together weekly to follow the prescribed curriculum. Group leaders help to equip parents to homeschool through a series of academic services, tutors, and meetings.

Basically homeschoolers gather once a week to meet and talk about not only curriculum, but also about God and to minister to each other.

If you are a follower of Classical homeschooling, you may appreciate what Classical Conversations has to offer. The support and pooled resources that such a group can provide will give you the confidence and strength to stay on course in the Classical model of homeschooling.

There is alot more about Classical Conversations than can fit into a blog post, but here are a few important points:

Mission: “Classical Conversations exists to know God and to make Him known.”

Vision: “Classical Conversations fulfills its mission and purpose by empowering parents in the classical teaching of their children through Parent Practicums and also through establishing and supporting nationally-based, Classical Christian Communities, which enable parents everywhere to equip their children with a Biblically-based worldview and the classical “tools of learning” in order to impact the world for God’s glory.”

Programs:

Kindergarten through 6th grade level is called foundations. At meetings, families are introduced to new memory work that involves History, Math, Science, Latin, and English. They work with a trained tutor.Third through 6th grade also works on Essentials. It focuses on Language arts and structure, writing, and math.

Finally, the 7th through 12 grade level is called Challenge in which students met once a week to work on challenging curriculum that involves saxon math, Apologia Sciences, Classic Literature, Writing, debating, and much more.
