What Is Your Dream Camera?

Right now I shoot with a Nikon D3000 and a 50mm prime. I actually love my current setup; it is a great system and I get pretty good results with it. It does have its limitations, however. For one, my camera does not have HD video, and that is something I would like for taking video of my family. The ISO (light sensitivity) is also limited, which means my pictures get noisy in low light conditions, even with the fast prime lens. (I do not use flash unless absolutely necessary.) My camera body is also geared towards those who are not familiar with SLR cameras, which is fine for people who want that in a camera and it was fine for me when I first started off, but now that I shoot in full manual mode, it is a little more cumbersome. A lot of the settings that I need to change are embedded in menus rather than controlled by buttons or dials on the outside of the camera. Like I said, my camera is perfect for someone that wants to stick with auto or one of the programmed modes.

My dream camera should really be called my dream camera bag. I am saving up to buy the Nikon D3S, an 85mm f/1.4G, and a 70-200mm f/2.8 VR II lens. It’s probably going to take me a long time to acquire all of these pieces, considering altogether it is going to cost me just over $9000. Am I crazy? Well, if I didn’t own a photography business, then I probably would be. You’ve probably heard the phrase, “don’t dress for the job you have, dress for the job you want.” I am following the same logic in that I want to shoot with the camera that reflects where I want my career to go, not where it is.
