What Kinds of Books do You Have in Your Home?

Whether you have few or many, most people have at least some books in their homes. Do you have a variety of different books, or do they tend to center around a particular theme? Maybe you have lots of children’s books for your kids but few books of your own. Perhaps everyone in your family has a collection of books.

I have an entire library in my closet, besides a bookshelf in the living room, which contains mine, my husband’s, and our older girls’ books. Our younger girls have a cabinet filled with books in the living room as well as a bookshelf in the hallway and two crates in their closet. We also have cookbooks and a few special books that are more for decorating than for reading.

There is something comforting about having books around. An open book lying on a table makes me feel cozy, like I want to curl up and read. I have always loved to read, nearly as much as I love to write. I believe I developed this love from my mother who own home is filled with walls of books.

I’m usually in the process of reading at least one book, and sometimes many, although I’m not currently reading anything now. I guess I’ve just been too busy with the holidays and sit down and get lost in a good story.

What’s your favorite type of reading? Do you like fiction, non-fiction, romance, history, mystery, true to life stories, or other genres?

If you don’t have a good selection of books, this is a good time of year to buy some. Many titles will be marked down since people will no longer be shopping for Christmas gifts. Also, check out used bookstores in order to get low prices or to trade existing books that you no longer want or need.

I can’t believe the many things I’ve learned, sometimes even through reading novels, because most do contain at least some factual information. Encourage your children to develop a love for reading, and try to read with them when you can. It’s a good bonding experience but reading also helps make each of us more well-rounded.
