What’s Next?

Okay, Christmas is done. We’ve unwrapped the last presents and for most of us parents, we’ve opened the last toy box (here’s hoping). Like many other Americans, it’s time to go back to work after the holiday unless you’re lucky enough to be off until next year. A lot of people probably didn’t keep to their exercise routines over the weekend whether you were off visiting family or having family visit you. So what’s next?

Don’t start worrying about New Year’s Resolutions or how many calories you consumed or how long you crashed on the sofa after Christmas dinner or how many pies are still leftover in the fridge. (We have six at my house – wee – going to be giving those away as soon as we can!). Instead, get back on the horse and your workout schedule. Take a long brisk walk, hit the treadmill, swing by the gym and whether you do a light workout, a medium one or go for the gusto, get back to work.

But it’s important to get your momentum back before it escapes fully. As the week progresses, we’re going to talk about the New Year and resolutions. We’re going to tackle the idea of goal chunking. We’re going to talk more about personal trainers, Curves and Kinetics. For those of you waiting for our little chat about the Bowflex, we’ve got ours set up and ready to go. The Bowflex Challenge is just around the corner.

There’s only a few days left in 2005, but it shouldn’t matter whether your goals are fitness, weight loss or stress relief. There’s no time like the present to get back on the bike, the horse, the treadmill or even the trail. Working out doesn’t have to be an all or nothing effect, spend thirty minutes to get your heart rate up, your weights in or perhaps indulge in a quiet session of yoga to increase your flexibility and give your mind a rest from the hustle of the holiday shopping season.

So stop sitting here and reading this and go tackle your workout. Don’t forget to warm up and drink plenty of water and tonight when you feel like having that piece of pie, go ahead – just don’t skip the workout tomorrow!

So, what’s next for you?
