Every home with children should have a well-stocked first aid kit ready and available in case of an emergency. While you can buy ready-made kits, they are often incomplete and include items that are not well made. Assembling your own kit will insure that that you have an adequate supply of everything you might need to take care of your family.
I’ve been putting together an essential first aid supply list.
This post is the third in a series. If you missed the previous part of the last, just click on the links below.

What Should You Include in a Home First Aid Kit: Part 2
Now, let us continue.
Gauze
Sterile gauze is important to have mostly for wrapping large or awkwardly placed wounds. I can also be used to help apply topical medicine or pack the gap from a missing or broken tooth, Make sure that the gauze you have is sterile and sealed. It is a good idea to get it both in rolls and folded squares for flexibility of use.
Gloves
Sterile gloves are important to protect both the patient and the caregiver when treating wounds. Don’t forget is still important to clean your hands even if you are using gloves. Select non-latex gloves to avoid any possible latex allergies.
Hand Sanitizer
Hand sanitizer will help to clean your hands if soap and water are not available. Just as with bottled water (which should be used instead of hand sanitizer to clean wounds), you’ll have to determine if not having access to clean water in your home is a possibility in the event of an emergency. Choose alcohol-based sanitizers with no added fragrance or aloe for your first aid kit.
Check back next month for the continuation of the list.
