What to Bring for a Camping Trip

Camping can be a fun activity for the whole family. Knowing what to bring and how to prepare for your camping trip can really make the whole experience so much better, especially if you have family members or friends who have never camped before.

Here are some things that you should bring with you that you might not have thought about.

Don’t forget the toilet paper (bathroom tissue). Even campsites that include a bathroom don’t always have the bathroom fully stocked. While there is the old joke about having to use leaves to wipe in the woods, do you really want to do that?

Next to no toilet paper, having soggy toilet paper while camping is the worst. The woods can get very damp at night or in the early morning before the sun dries everything out. Put your toilet paper in a coffee can with a lid to keep it dry.

Bring a collection of light sources, since campsites can become very dark at night. Don’t forget to bring along extra batteries as well!

Most of us remember to bring plates and forks when we are out camping, but you’ll also need a couple of kitchen knives, a pot to boil water, a frying pan, the the supplies to wash them. You’ll need some dishwashing liquid, absorbent towels and a souring pad or sponge.

Nylon rope is a must have item when camping. It has so many uses. You might want to use it for a clothes line to dry clothing that has gotten wet or damp, You can use it to tie up food at night to keep it away from animals, and you could even use it to create a make shift shelter if need be.

Dental floss and duct tape can also come in handy. Dental floss is strong and can be used to do everything from cut some foods, such as cheese or cake, or it can be used to make repairs in tents and clothing (if you also bring a darning needle).

Happy camping.
