What to do With Larger Chunks of Alone Time

Last time I gave you a list of things to do if you had a little extra time for yourself. Here I’ll give you a list of things to do if you have some longer spaces of time. I’m sure you have several ideas already, but maybe this will help broaden your horizons.

Read some movie reviews and rent one or two, or go to the movies and watch one there. Then go to the movies forum and write a review, or discuss it with others.

I know I suggested reading for the short amount of time, but I am suggesting it again for longer periods of time as well. Go find a book that you think you would enjoy, or if you’re looking for suggestions, read some of the reviews tristipie has to offer. You could also join the the book club in the families.com forums. You could also just go to your local book store, pick a book that looks interesting, and have a seat.

While you are at it, take a nice long hot bath. Grab that book, a relaxing drink (coffee, tea, hot chocolate, water, etc.), a nice treat (chocolate, carrots and celery, gummies, granola bar, etc.) a nice scented candle if you would like, and relax in some nice hot water.

Dance. Whether you go out to a club, or do it right in your living room, just dance. Have fun, and let yourself go.

I mentioned exercising in the short amount of time, but I am also mentioning it here. Go roller blading, for a nice long walk or bike ride. Pop in an exercise video. Make your own workout. Get moving and have fun doing it.

Pick up or continue to work on a hobby. Start doing different crafts. Mary Ann Romans has lots of great, thrifty ideas for different crafts that you can do. Lisa Andrews has a lot of information on scrapbooking. Or if you prefer cooking and baking, try some of these recipes at the food blog.

Volunteer for your local charities. Helping others makes you feel good, and it’s a great way to make friends. Call a church, food shelf, Salvation Army, or any other local charity, and ask them what they need help with.

Go window shopping, or thrift shopping. You need little to no money, and you can treat yourself to something. Mary Ann Romans has some great ideas on thrift store shopping as well.

Go have a cup of coffee (tea, hot chocolate, or your drink of choice) … alone or with a friend. Just take some time to relax.

Surf the Net, check your E-mail, look up your interests, learn new things, window shop online, play free games, visit families.com, read some blogs, read some forum posts, just have fun wasting time.
