What to Do With Unwanted Gifts

Now that Christmas day is over and the excitement of opening presents has waned, you may find yourself looking at some of your gifts with a furrowed brow. Perhaps you are wondering what to do with some of the things you got but you frankly do not like. Which of these describes you?

The Re-gifter
The re-gifter is a frugal person who does not want to see a decent gift go to waste. This person likes to store unwanted gifts with the intent to pawn them off on someone else. Saves money, right?

The Profiteer
The profiteer is anyone who intends to make a profit off of unwanted items. They realize that although they think that a crocheted toaster cover is the stupidest gift ever given, that there probably is a market for just the thing on Ebay. Or, perhaps this person intends to hold onto the item until the day when the family will finally have a yard sale and it can be sold for a mere 25 cents. And, somehow that 25 cents is justification for keeping it around for a couple of years. Still, making a profit (any profit) is one of the most frugal options for your unwanted gifts.

The Pleaser
Is it sometimes hard for you to let go of gifts because you are afraid of making the person who gave it to you feel bad? If so, then you are a pleaser. Unfortunately, you are more concerned with pleasing other people than pleasing yourself. Just let it go!! Your home should be an expression of you, not a conglomeration of random objects that other people have given to you. If it doesn’t fit your style, your needs, or wants, get rid of it.

The Tosser
The tosser could care less what anyone else thinks of him or her. This person doesn’t want to procrastinate getting rid of anything, so it all goes in the easiest place–the trash.

The Giver
The giver is simply someone who decides it is best to give an item to others when it is just not what he or she wanted. It is really okay to just give things away sometimes instead of trying to always want to make money off of it.

The Hoarder
The hoarder, unfortunately, can be any of these others listed–just procrastinated. The hoarder is the giver who just never manages to be able to take those boxes of things to the thrift store donation bins. The hoarder can easily be the re-gifter who just hasn’t found the right person to give that Dolly Parton wig too. You get the idea. Whatever method you choose for dealing with unwanted gifts, just get it done quickly.
