What to Get at the Post-Christmas Sales

tree

I’ve never been one for Boxing Day (or Boxing Week, or Boxing two weeks…) sales. I usually find myself so stunned after Christmas is over that I don’t want to move for a few days, let alone enter in to the consumer frenzy that is the time after Christmas. Didn’t we just go through that before Christmas?

However, I must admit that I do enter the hallowed halls of the mall after Christmas upon occasion, usually do to an accident. Maybe I’m going to the library and I just happen into the place, you know?

If you find yourself in the same situation, there is hope. There are useful goods to be had at the post-Christmas sales, and here are a few ideas.

You may need certain items for the home, and perhaps you have some Christmas money to spend. This is the perfect time to do just that. A new frying pan on sale? Why yes, if it’s been on the household list of items to purchase anyway. The post-Christmas sales are also a good time to purchase appliances that you need. In January everyone is suffering from the debt load of Christmas. If you’ve been savvy and have saved up for a new fridge because your old one barely made it through the Christmas season, so much the better if it is 25 percent off.

This is also the time to get winter sports and clothing items on sale. It’s part way through the winter season, so it’s an opportunity to stock up for the remainder of this year and for the next. Buy children’s clothing a couple of sizes too large.

If you’re really on the ball, this is also an excellent time to stock up for Christmas 2011. I know, you don’t want to think about it. But before you stick your fingers in your ears, remember that Christmas cards, LED lights, and gift bags are now up to 75% off. If you’re heading to the mall anyway and you have storage, you may as well get them now. It’s also a good time to create a list of birthdays throughout the year and stock up on gifts for those as well.

Late December and early January is also the time to stock up on donations for charity for next year. If you have the storage space, get timeless toys and essential Christmas items on sale. Save the receipts and donate them this coming Christmas.
