What Will Make You Feel Successful?

I recently read an excellent article that discussed success and what it means to be successful in your career.

The author made a point that I make a lot, particularly when I talk about writing out business goals and understanding your long term goals and where you want to be in a year or two from now.

He said that if you do not know what you consider successful, you will never be successful.

Makes sense, doesn’t it?

But how often do you really sit down and think about what it means for you to be successful?

I don’t.

I think about what it is I need to do for the day, and I consider what my long term goals are business wise, whether it is hoping to obtain more clients or expand so much that sometime down the road I need my own brick and mortar shop.

Yet I never really think about what it would mean for me to consider myself successful when it comes to business.

This can go for those of you who work for a company rather than who own a company as well. If you are an employee of a company, what would it take to make you feel successful? Getting praise from the boss? Moving up the corporate ladder? Hitting a certain salary?

If you own your own company, what would make you feel successful? Launching a successful business? Obtaining a certain number of clients? Reaching a certain yearly revenue?

In order to feel successful, you must first understand what spells success for you. Not for your neighbor or your friend, but for your. Figuring that out is half of the battle.

Once you do understand what it is that will make you feel successful you are in a wonderful position to get out there and begin working on the steps that will take you to obtain that success. So this week, begin to consider what it is that will make you feel successful.
